A spokesperson for the police said: « Shortly before 9:55am today, we received a report from the fire service of a fire at a property on Carr Lane, Hambleton.
« Our officers along with other emergency service colleagues are at the scene and the fire service are working to extinguish the fire.
« A 54-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life. He has been taken to hospital with minor injuries at this time.
« Thankfully, no one else has been injured.
« A small number of surrounding properties have been evacuated, and Carr Lane remains closed whilst our colleagues carry out work to ensure the safety of the area.
« An investigation is underway, and a man has been arrested. This is being treated as an isolated incident.
« Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting log 0289 of 27th March. »
