Iran has responded to Donald Trump’s peace plan with its own five conditions to ending the war in the Middle East – but one in particular will likely leave the US President furious. State broacaster Press TV of Iran quoted a « senior politcal-security official » saying that Iran has rejected a US proposal aimed at ending the current war.
The broadcaster has, however, not revealed the name of the official, or the rank and titile. The report further added: « Iran will end the war when it decides to do so and when its own conditions are met. » Iranian officials have repeatedly said they want a complete end to the war, not just a ceasefire. The revelation comes a day after the US President announced that « very good and productive » conversations have been held with Iran with an aim to bring the war to an end.
According to Press TV, the official outlined five conditions, saying: « Complete halt to aggression and assassinations by the enemy; the establishment of concrete mechanisms to ensure that the war is not reimposed on the Islamic Republic; guaranteed and clearly defined payment of war damages and reparations, the conclusion of the war across all fronts and for all resistance groups involved throughout the region; international recognition and guarantees regarding Iran’s sovereign right to exercise authority over the Strait of Hormuz. »
On Tuesday, Mr Trump said the United States is « in negotiations right now » with Iran, and that his envoy Steve Witkoff and son-in-law Jared Kushner are involved in the talks, along with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President JD Vance.
He said: « We have a number of people doing it. And the other side, I can tell you, they’d like to make a deal. »
A report on Tuesday said the United States had presented Iran with a 15‑point proposal aimed at easing tensions in the Middle East
According to The New York Times, which cited two officials familiar with the diplomatic efforts, the plan was relayed through Pakistan and outlines measures related to Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile activities, as well as maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz.
On February 28, the US and Isreal carried out a joint missile attack on Iran. This was quickly retaliated by Iran as it launched counter missile strikes on several Middle Eastern countries inluding Dyubai, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and many more.
Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned the conflict in the Middle East is « out of control », adding the world is « staring down the barrel of a wider war ».
He said it was « high time” that the US and Israel end the war on Iran, and urged Tehran to stop attacking its neighbours « that are not part of the conflict ».
Mr Guterres commented: « It is time to stop climbing the escalation ladder, and start climbing the diplomatic ladder, and return to full respect of international law. »
