Major update as UK holiday firm crashes into liquidation – almost £1m of debt | UK | News

A UK holiday company that offered trips at home and abroad crashed into liquidation as it had close to £1 million in debts. Gold Crest Holidays offered coach holidays to destinations such as Disneyland Paris and the Cotswolds, as well as various European city breaks.

After more than 30 years in business, the company entered voluntary liquidation and ceased trading on January 23, 2026. A recent statement of affairs submitted to Companies House revealed that Cold Crest Holidays had around £156,000 worth of assets that could be distributed to creditors. Files also revealed that these assets are not enough to repay debts, with the company still owing around £425,000.

In total, the firm has 63 creditors listed on the files, all of whom are collectively owed £927,000. However, this is an estimated figure and might not reflect the exact amount owed.

Barclays Security Trustee Limited, for example, is owed £309,000, while Barclays Bank is owed £98,000 and Barclaycard is owed £33,000, the files show.

Meanwhile, ABTA, which is an association of travel agents and tour operators, is owed around £107,000. Additionally, ten employees have preferential claims close to £10k, collectively.

« This difficult decision follows the severe impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, strategic changes in key partner arrangements that adversely affected our business, and a challenging trading environment with significantly rising costs, » Gold Crest Holidays said in a statement earlier this year.

« We are immensely grateful to our loyal customers, travel agents, suppliers, and dedicated staff for your support over the years. We are truly sorry we can no longer continue.

« We apologise for any disappointment or inconvenience caused. ABTA will provide clear support to affected customers. »

It was a popular option for tourists from the UK, and it has generally positive reviews online. One TripAdvisor user said of their experience: « Really brilliant few days away. Got picked up from Loughborough and headed towards Disneyland Paris for a couple of days staying in the Marvel. I want to give a massive shoutout and thank you to Matthew and Adrian and to Laura on bus number 60! They made the journey amazing with quizzes and music. »

The majority of reviews on Trustpilot give the company five stars.
