Police have rushed to a busy city centre in Edinburgh and locked down a street, with a « seriously injured » man rushed to hospital. A 39-year-old man has been arrested after an alleged stabbing took place on Wardlaw Street adjacent Gorgie Road around 2.40pm.
A 50-year-old man is believed to have sustained « serious » injuries. EdinburghLive reported emergency services descending on the scene earlier today as locals reported seeing a man being led away by police covered in what appeared to be blood. Images taken at the scene show police tape erected along the thoroughfare. An eyewitness reported seeing blood on the ground on social media however this is yet to be verified.
A futher eyewintess said: « I was just travelling home from work and saw that Wardlaw Street was blocked off.
« There are loads of police and queues. I’m not sure what’s happened but it looks concerning. I hope everyone is okay.
« About six police cars parked on the road and officers directing traffic. »
A statement from Police Scotland reads: « A 39-year-old man has been arrested after a man was found injured in Wardlaw Street, Edinburgh on Tuesday, 24 March, 2026.
« Officers were called to property around 2.40pm and a 50-year-old man has been taken to hospital for treatment. Hospital staff describe his condition as serious but not critical.
Detective Inspector Alan Sharp added: « ‘Our enquiries are ongoing in the Wardlaw Street area.
« ‘We would urge any witnesses or anyone with information which may assist our investigation to contact us.
« Anyone with information should contact 101 quoting incident number 1900 of 24 March.
« Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained. »
