Parents have been warned to stop using several popular children’s toys immediately after dangerous levels of asbestos were found in a number of products sold in the UK.
The latest items to be pulled from shelves include KTL 6” Stretchy Monster assorted toys, which have been recalled over fears they “may be contaminated with a quantity of asbestos”. The recall applies to item number TY2863 and barcode 5033849995485.
Another affected product is the Texet Bright Start Fluorescent Coloured Craft Sand Pack of 6, with model number AC-SAND-PK6 and barcode 5060955510899. Batches BT3349 and BT1264 are impacted, with kits sold between April 2024 and February 2026 included in the recall.
The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) said asbestos is a banned substance that poses serious health risks, even at low levels of exposure.
Parents and carers are being urged to ensure children stop using the affected toys immediately.
Guidance from the OPSS advises placing the items in a heavy-duty plastic bag, sealing it securely with tape, and keeping it out of reach of children.
If the product is damaged and contents such as sand have been exposed, people are advised to clean affected areas using damp cloths to avoid creating dust.
Those handling the materials should wear gloves and a mask, and dispose of all waste, including cleaning materials, in sealed bags. Areas should be kept clear of children until fully cleaned.
Consumers can either dispose of the products in general household waste or return them to the retailer for a full refund, depending on store policy.
The recall is part of a wider safety alert affecting dozens of toys and craft kits sold in recent years, including sand art sets, stretchy figures and sensory kits.
Officials are urging anyone who has purchased similar items to check product details carefully and follow safety advice, as investigations into the contaminated toys continue.
