Spring has arrived, and the sun is finally trying to make an appearance in the UK. If you’re someone who instantly feels their mood lifting thanks to the burst of Vitamin D, then no doubt you’ll be thinking about where to get your next dose of balmy weather – and the good news is, you don’t need to go far.

April brings with it a wave of destinations where the weather starts to get hot and sunny, with plenty of options easily less than four hours from the UK.

So, where is hot and sunny in April? We take a look at seven destinations that you’ll want on your radar…

Morocco

With a flight time of just under four hours, Morocco has plenty of options for sun-seekers. Popular spots including Agadir and Marrakech both boast temperatures of around 25C in the daytime, although these drop down to 14C in the evening so pack layers! Still, the weather is warm, dry and sunny, so it’s ideal if you want to wander around the markets, or tuck into the incredible cuisine on an outdoor terrace. Oh, and there are of course plenty of riads with pools which invite you to cool off!

Malta

Looking for somewhere to enjoy a long weekend? Malta is worth adding to your radar. For a start, it’s home to the ‘best city in the world’, not to mention you can find flights from £30 outside of the peak Easter holiday dates. Valletta is packed with incredible landmarks including Upper Barrakka Gardens, Valletta Waterfront, Grand Master’s Palace, while the iconic Blue Lagoon and nearby island of Gozo are always firm favourites with intrepid explorers. TV fans can also take walking tours of plenty of iconic filming locations, most famously those used for Game of Thrones.

Spain

It may not yet be hot enough to hit the beach, but if you’ve always wanted to tick off some of those beautiful Spanish cities, then April can be an ideal month. For example, head to Seville where you’ll find temperatures averaging 24C, meaning ideal weather for wandering along its iconic plaza, or taking in the beautiful views and gardens at the Royal Alcazar. Meanwhile capital Madrid offers temperatures of around 18C, so it’s cool enough to get that step count up and go exploring the sights, but still warm enough to have a cheeky sangria in the sunshine!

Canary Islands

The Canaries boast year-round sunshine which is partly why they are such a hit with UK holidaymakers, but come April you can start to enjoy temperatures of arond 18-24C depending on different regions of the island. It’s not hot enough to lie out on a beach, but it is warm enough to enjoy the countless hikes, beautiful beachfront promenades and vibrant nightlife, not to mention most resorts are up and running around this time so there’s plenty of atmosphere.

Greek islands

If you want to explore the Greek Islands without the peak summer crowds, April can be a great time to do so. The likes of Kos, Crete and Santorini start to see more tavernas and hotels opening their doors so there’s plenty to enjoy, but it’s still quieter than other peak months meaning you don’t need to sharpen those elbows for some of the best views. For those who love a scenic walk, April is also one of the best months to watch some of the beautiful wildflowers that bloom on the islands.

Thailand

If you’re after the type of hot weather where you just lie poolside all day, Thailand delivers with temperatures of around 34-37C in April, and usually still dry condition. It makes for ideal conditions whether you’re looking to make the most of the beaches in Phuket, do some island hopping or simply just soak up the atmosphere at the bustling resorts. Prefer to go sightseeing in the likes of Bangkok and Chiang Mai? You might want to plan an early start before the hot weather kicks in…

Caribbean

April still helps you swerve the Caribbean’s peak monsoon season (which runs from June to November). Barbados, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic are just some of the beautiful spots with those white sand beaches, lush green backdrops and plenty of adventures to be had, not to mention you can find plenty of great deals including cruises that offer ports of call at various hotspots.
