A travel vlogger who visited a scenic European town that pays people £24,000 to move there has pointed out a major catch. Ben Morris set off to the Swiss Alps to investigate a location that has suffered from a dwindling population, and, in a bid to boost its numbers, has offered a cash incentive to those who make the village their home.
Nestled in the southwest of Switzerland in the canton of Valais, the idyllic village of Albinen looks like it belongs on a postcard, with its stunning mountain views, rolling hills, and charming houses set against a lush green backdrop. A reported population of only 262 people, Albinen’s residents voted to enact a residency initiative that offers CHF 25,000 (about £24,000 at the time of writing) to those who uproot and move to the mountains, according to the BBC. Ben was clearly impressed as he made his way to the village by car, calling the views « incredible » as he drove in.
