Donald Trump unleashed a frenzied attack following the death of Robert Mueller, the man who spearheaded the investigation into his ties with Russia. Moments after the announcement that Mueller, 81, had passed away, Trump posted on Truth Social: « Robert Mueller just died. Good, I’m glad he’s dead. »

He proceeded to imply that Mueller’s death meant he could no longer « hurt innocent people. » Trump has consistently asserted that Mueller’s report entirely vindicated him, which it did not. Mueller’s investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election, and his campaign’s connections with figures in Moscow, revealed widespread criminal conduct, reports the Mirror.

It resulted in 37 indictments, seven guilty pleas or convictions, and evidence that Trump obstructed justice on numerous occasions. It found proof that Russia launched extensive attacks on the US election system in 2016, and discovered « numerous links between the Russian government and the Trump campaign ».

In the report, Mueller, acting as special counsel, explicitly stated that his report « does not exonerate » the President, but recognised that Department of Justice policy is that a sitting president cannot be indicted.

However, before most Americans could peruse the 500-page report, or even comprehend a summary, Trump claimed victory. He tweeted that the report found « no collusion, no obstruction » and was a « Complete and Total EXONERATION. »

This was, of course, a falsehood. But he’s adhered to it for so long, and reiterated it so frequently, it has in many people’s minds supplanted the truth.

To this day, he refers to the « Russia, Russia, Russia Hoax » as if it’s a resolved matter, which it decidedly is not. The report found Trump repeatedly violated the law, in ways that would have seen any other individual incarcerated.

Announcing Muellers death at the age of 81 a statement said: « With deep sadness, we are sharing the news that Bob passed away. His family asks that their privacy be respected. »

Mueller’s and his team spent nearly two years discreetly conducting one of the most significant, investigations in Justice Department history.

He held no press conferences and made no public appearances during the investigation, staying silent despite attacks from Trump and his supporters and creating an aura of mystery around his work.

In total, Mueller brought criminal charges against six of the president’s associates, including his campaign chairman and first national security adviser.
