Jannik Sinner match halted in Miami as umpire stopped fan behavious | Tennis | Sport

The umpire was forced to intervene during Jannik Sinner‘s Miami Open match against Damir Dzumhur, as a warning was sent to fans over shouting out.

Sinner raced into a one-set lead by taking the first set 6-3. He then took an early break in the second to take total control of the match.

But it was during the second set when the umpire was forced to intervene by warning an individual fan about shouting out during points. Earlier in the match, the umpire had warned fans generally about shouting out during points.

But during a break in the second set, he was heard speaking to someone. According to Sky Sports commentators, he sent an official up to the stands to warn one particular fan, with the umpire heard saying he needed to ‘relax’.

The disruption didn’t seem to affect either player, although Sinner seemed to make light work of his opponent. One break in the second set again proved to be enough for the Italian who came out as 6-3, 6-3 winner to book his place in the next round.

Speaking on court after the match, Sinner said: « Today, starting off with a break straight away, I tried to be a bit aggressive, at times it worked very well at times I made a couple of unforced errors. But look, I didn’t have a lot of time to adjust here, it’s very different to in Indian Wells.

« First round matches are never easy, so I’m very happy and let’s see what’s coming. »

Sinner will now be in round of 32 action tomorrow (Sunday), although he his yet to know who his opponent will be.
