Alisson releases emotional injury statement as Liverpool star reveals how long he’s out | Football | Sport

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson has taken to social media to reveal he’s expected to be missing for ‘a while’ after picking up a new injury. The Brazilian international had missed Liverpool’s first leg against Galatasaray, but returned in time for the weekend clash with Tottenham and was between the sticks for Wednesday’s return leg at Anfield.

But Alisson, who has struggled with injury problems throughout his Liverpool career, won’t be available for the Reds’ weekend visit to Brighton at the very least. Giorgi Mamardashvili is expected to take his place in goal, with Alisson having updated the Liverpool faithful via social media.

Posting on Instagram, the shot-stopper said: « Unfortunately I will be out of action for a while. Already working hard to be back stronger! Thank you for the support. »

But it’s come at a nightmare time for Slot and Liverpool, as they look to secure qualification into next year’s Champions League. Ahead of the weekend action, the six-time European champions find themselves in fifth, just one point above rivals Chelsea.

Alisson is just one of several injury issues Slot is contending with, as Mohamed Salah is also out of action for the foreseeable future. Salah netted his 50th Champions League goal in mid-week, but Slot revealed that the legendary winger is injured and will also miss Egypt’s upcoming international fixtures.

Speaking ahead of the Brighton clash, Slot said: « Unusual [he is injured], I think you expect the outcome so he is not available for tomorrow. Good thing for Liverpool is we go to international break, bad news for Egypt, he can’t go there.

« We hope with what Mo has shown in the past he can recovery faster than other players. He takes such good care of his body, he can be back earlier than others as history has shown. Only two weeks until we go again. »

Meanwhile, Joe Gomez is also carrying a knock, with Slot adding: « Joe wasn’t able to come in, we tried to postpone it as often we could [against Gala], maybe a miracle can happen I told him if needed him in extra time. He might be – might be – available tomorrow but not to start. »

Alexander Isak remains out but is expected to return at some point during April and could feature in Liverpool’s Champions League quarter-final. Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni will likely remain sidelined for the remainder of the season.
