Sarah Ferguson has suffered a barrage of humiliating blows since her deeper ties to Jeffrey Epstein were unmasked last year – but this latest is the start of her being erased from the UK. Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is already further down the ‘cancelling’ road after councillors voted last November to change the name of ‘Prince Andrew Way’ in Carrickfergus, County Antrim.
The Alliance Party brought forward that motion, meaning residents will have to change addresses for bank accounts etc, while expressing their desire to maintain their « important link to the Royal Family« . Andrew and Fergie have each been skewered by their own public lies about cutting off contact with the convicted paedophile, while secretly maintining their friendship with the vile US financier.
Fergie oozes greed and desperation in emails to Epstein released by the US Department of Justice, one moment asking Epstein for a job or money, then asking him: « Marry me! »
When Andrew gave up his titles, Fergie lost her right to be a duchess and her Epstein links caused her business and writing deals to drop off a cliff.
Now, the former Duchess of York is to be cancelled by that very same city, in the ultimate fall from grace.
Councillors are moving to revoke the celebrated ‘Freedom of the City of York’ honour from Fergie, 66, and will vote on the motion on Thursday, March 26.
The honour was first given to the mother-of-two when she and Andrew visited in 1987, presented as a wedding gift from the city.
Last October – when the idea was first mooted – York Council’s Labour leader Claire Douglas said it was deplorable that anyone bearing titles linked to York could associate with Epstein after his child sex conviction.
If approved Fergie will follow her ex-husband, whose Freedom of the City honour was revoked in 2022.
The Freedom of the City of York is an 800-year-old tradition, dating back to 1272, which originally granted individuals exclusive rights to trade, vote, and hold office in the northern hub.
The honour has previously been held by the hero of the Napoleonic Wars, PM and 1st Duke of Wellington Arthur Wellesley; Sir Winston Churchill and Dame Judi Dench.
Now Fergie is soon set to be erased, the start of what could be a brutal and relentless erasing of her name over the next few months and years.
All because she was attracted to Epstein’s wealth and power like a moth to a flame.
By eck, I hope it was all worth it.
