Donald Trump has launched a furious attack against NATO as tensions between the US President and the Western defence alliance completely boil over.
The US President wrote on Truth Social: « Without the U.S.A., NATO IS A PAPER TIGER! They didn’t want to join the fight to stop a Nuclear Powered Iran. Now that fight is Militarily WON, with very little danger for them, they complain about the high oil prices they are forced to pay, but don’t want to help open the Strait of Hormuz, a simple military maneuver that is the single reason for the high oil prices. So easy for them to do, with so little risk. COWARDS, and we will REMEMBER! President DONALD J. TRUMP. »
The scathing attack comes as the US-Israel war with Iran has been going on for three weeks now. The joint attack which was launched on February 28 has killed around 1,300 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Iran has been retaliating as it launched attacks on several middle-eastern countries including Dubai. It also responded with waves of drone and missile strikes across the region and has effectively shut down most commercial movement through the Strait of Hormuz.
The vital chokepoint normally carries around 20 million barrels of oil per day, along with about one‑fifth of the world’s liquefied natural gas shipments, making the disruption especially significant.
Amid the ongoing conflict, oil prices have soared with Brent crude—the global benchmark—trading at $108.21 a barrel in early morning markets.
This marks an increase of about 50% since the United States and Israel launched their military campaign, underscoring how quickly geopolitical tensions can disrupt global energy supplies and drive up costs.
As the conflict deepens, the US President, long known for his skepticism toward the Western military alliance, has recently intensified his criticism of NATO.
Meanwhile, six major international powers—including Britain, France, Germany, and Japan—announced their readiness to support efforts to secure the Strait of Hormuz.
However, none have formally committed to a specific mission in the vital waterway, and some allies, such as Germany and Italy, have said they will not take any action until a truce is reached in the Middle East conflict.
