Bruno Guimaraes to Man Utd bombshell drops as ‘advanced talks’ held | Football | Sport

Manchester United are reportedly in ‘advanced talks’ to secure the signature of Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes, according to Reuters. The report suggests a summer move worth €80million (£69m) is on the table, but interest from Real Madrid could potentially disrupt the transfer.

Los Blancos have been keen on the Brazilian midfielder since 2022, and it seemed likely he would join them before Newcastle‘s substantial offer was tabled to Lyon. However, initial discussions between United and Guimaraes’ representatives indicate that both parties are eager for the move to happen.

Newcastle’s Champions League exit at the hands of Barcelona has increased the likelihood of Guimaraes leaving, especially as European qualification for next season seems unlikely. Guimaraes is almost certain to be brought in as a replacement for the departing Casemiro.

Casemiro’s departure at the end of the season has already been confirmed, and he has been endorsing his fellow Brazilian as the ideal successor. United have numerous other midfield options, including Adam Wharton, Elliot Anderson, Carlos Baleba and severa

Two new midfielders are likely required this summer as United’s midfield resources are stretched, even with Casemiro still at the club. With Champions League football seemingly set to return to Old Trafford for the 2026/27 season, the necessity for a robust squad becomes even more critical.

Having been eliminated from both domestic cup competitions in the first round, United will only participate in 40 matches this season, allowing them to concentrate solely on the Premier League. Since assuming temporary control, Michael Carrick has secured seven victories out of a possible nine.

Their most recent triumph was against top-five contenders Aston Villa, with Casemiro scoring for the third time under Carrick’s stewardship. United have subsequently climbed to third in the table, six points ahead of Chelsea, who sit just outside the Champions League qualification spots.

Bournemouth are United’s forthcoming opponents, with that match scheduled for Friday evening. Some key players will be absent for the trip down south with Carrick confirming that Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs de Ligt are still out injured.
