Donald Trump has seemingly taken yet another swipe at the UK and Sir Keir Starmer, as a war of words between the two countries over the Iran war threatens to completely boil over.
The UK President has launched several brutal attacks against the UK over what he claims is the country’s slow response to helping America in the conflict with Iran. Sir Keir Starmer has in particular come in for heavy criticism, slamming him as « no Winston Churchill » in another savage takedown.Mr Trump said he is « disappointed » by the Prime Minister over his initial refusal to send aircraft carriers to the Middle East. On Wednesday morning, The US President took to his Truth Social platform to seemingly take another swipe at the UK and other « allies » he claims are being « non-responsive » during the war with Iran.
He wrote: « I wonder what would happen if we ‘finished off’ what’s left of the Iranian Terror State, and let the countries that use it, we don’t, be responsible for the so called ‘Strait?’
« That would get some of our non-responsive ‘Allies’ in gear, and fast!!! President DJT. »
On Tuesday, Mr Trump told reporters at the Oval Office he had rejected Starmer’s offer to send British aircraft carriers to help the US in its war against Iran.
He voiced his unhapiness at the UK’s stance furing the ongoing conflict, with Britain reportedly refusing to send warships to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, which sees around a fifth of the world’s global oil supplies pass through.
The channel has been kept shut by Iran following several missile and drone strikes.
Taking a dig at the UK PM, Mr Trump told Sky News: « Unfortunately Keir is no Winston Churchil. Well, he hasn’t been supportive, and I think it’s a big mistake.
« You know, they make a lot of money on trade with the United States. I went out of my way [to make a trade deal]. We made a good deal for them and, frankly, probably wasn’t appreciated. »
After being asked about his relationship with the UK, the president said it was « always the best until Keir came along ». However, Trump insisted that Starmer is a « very nice man with a beautiful family ».
He said he was « disappointed because Keir was willing to send two aircraft carriers after we won because essentially, there’s no threat… [and we] said, no, no, we want things sent before the war, not after the war is won. »
