In a move that’s surely set to upset thousands of Fortnite fans, Epic Games is raising the price of V-Bucks from this Thursday, March 19.
Instead of getting 1,000 V-Bucks for your £8.99, gamers will soon only get 800 of the virtual currency, increasing the amount they’ll need to spend to obtain the coveted crossover cosmetics the Battle Royale is known for. The Battle Pass is getting its price reduced, though – so it will still cost £8.99.
Thankfully, Epic Games has confirmed that any pre-purchased vouchers will still be valid for the same amount of V-Bucks that they were purchased for. That leaves gamers with less than three days to rack up as many V-Bucks as they can before they get 20% more expensive later this week.
We’ve found a way that gamers can save a huge percentage on V-Bucks ahead of the price hike, and it’s done by utilising a TopCashback deal at Argos. Gamers can currently purchase the £20 Fortnite voucher from the online retailer, but a sign-up bonus from TopCashback knocks the price all the way down to £4.50.
All shoppers need to do is create a brand new TopCashback account using this unique sign-up link and connect it to their Argos account. Once done, you can purchase the Fortnite voucher as normal and the £15 cashback will make its way back to your account within seven working days.
Combined with the usual rewards from TopCashback, that takes the effective price of the voucher down to £4.50. However, the effective price is actually £4.83 for existing Argos customers – only new Argos accounts get the full deal.
Argos isn’t the only UK retailer that sells Fortnite gift cards. They can also be purchased at Amazon, although they’re not compatible with the TopCashback deal.
Tesco also sells the gift cards with the ability to load any amount of credit you like – ideal for gifts.
It’s worth noting that these gift cards don’t redeem V-Bucks directly, only Epic Games Store credit. As such, they’ll need to be redeemed for V-Bucks ahead of the March 19 price hike for them to be the most cost effective.
