Tributes have flooded in for the former footballer, who fought the condition for 11 years. One user wrote: « Very sad to learn of this. May Amy’s holy soul rest in the sleep of peace. »
Carr’s condition was discovered in 2015 after fainting at the sight of a spider. She underwent an MRI and found out about the tumour the ‘size of a golf ball’.
She underwent surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy to treat the grade four, golf ball-sized astrocytoma, and believed she had recovered until recently. But after experiencing blurred vision and slurred speech shortly after an annual check-up in 2024 doctors discovered the tumour had returned.
In August last year, Carr was informed she was terminally ill and heartbreakingly given a prognosis of just six to nine months left to live.
The former goalkeeper represented England 16 times at youth level, up to the Under-19s, and played for Arsenal, Chelsea and Reading.
