Marvel Rivals hits back at Overwatch with ‘Path to Doomsday’ roadmap | Gaming | Entertainment

Marvel Rivals has just announced an exciting new content plan for the rest of the year in what could potentially restore a huge chunk of its playerbase after Overwatch returned to form last month.

Although Marvel Rivals spent a good year outperforming Blizzard’s Overwatch with an unapologetic facsimile of its gameplay formula, the OG title clapped back last month with its Conquest update. The five new heroes and a fresh coat of paint brought thousands of players back to Overwatch with it now enjoying a higher peak player count than Marvel Rivals.

However, NetEase’s game might just have a trick up its sleeve to entice players back into the fray with an entire year’s worth of content all based on the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s greatest hits.

In a post over on X, Marvel Rivals announced ‘The Path to Doomsday’, with new content releasing throughout 2026 in a tie-in with December’s Avengers Doomsday movie.

“The Path to Doomsday begins!,” the post reads. “New game modes and in-game events inspired by The Infinity Saga are coming to Marvel Rivals! Explore the full roadmap starting in April and continuing through to October to discover what’s to come.

“In December, we’ll be fully igniting the battlefield with all-new in-game content to celebrate the release of Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday!”

As for what this content looks like exactly, we’re still in the dark. Marvel Rivals is no stranger to limited time modes, so we imagine a lot of the updates will include modes that replicate familiar scenes and battles from these iconic movies.

For example, April’s event will be based on the original Avengers movie from 2012, which will see a more powerful version of Loki introduced with a skin that resembles his movie appearance.

The asymmetrical mode will task six players to face off against him in a battle to take him down. The Hulk will be available as a summon ability, recreating that iconic scene from the movie.

Additional content drops will be arriving in June, August and October ahead of the culmination of the Doomsday event in December.

Our best guess is that marketing for these additional content drops will tie in with Disney’s plans to start advertising the Doomsday movie itself, which has a release date of December 19, 2026.

Is The Path to Doomsday event enough to get you back into Marvel Rivals? Or are you sticking with Overwatch for now?
