Beloved Assassin’s Creed game just got a huge update on PS5 and Xbox | Gaming | Entertainment

As we approach the one-year anniversary of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Ubisoft has shared a huge update on what’s next for the stealthy series – and fans of one of the franchises’s most underrated games are in for a treat.

While plenty of gamers will no doubt be head over heels for the official announcement of the Black Flag remake – who saw that coming? – and confirmation that both Hexe and a multiplayer experience are coming along smoothly, it’s the mention of Assassin’s Creed Unity that caught our eye.

Set in Paris during the French Revolution, this 2013 title was the very first Assassin’s Creed to be exclusive to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Rinsing all of their compute power, the game rendered the parisian streets with incredible lighting and details, but only managed to sustain a relatively choppy 30fps.

That’s remained the case on console since launch as although Unity is backwards compatible on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, it doesn’t take advantage of any of that extra graphical horsepower.

However, that’s all about to change later today as Ubisoft is set to release a 60fps patch for Assassin’s Creed Unity on both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Available to download for free for those who already own the game, this should ensure that the game runs at a silky smooth frame rate without sacrificing on visual quality. There’s no word on whether the game will get a bump in resolution, though – only frame rate is mentioned in the blog post.

Speaking of the blog post, here’s what Ubisoft had to say about the update: “A free 60 FPS patch for Assassin’s Creed Unity is coming to Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 tomorrow!

“We know some of you have been waiting for it for a long time, so get ready to re‑experience 18th century Paris and Arno’s fancy parkour moves with more smoothness on consoles!”

Ubisoft also highlights that ‘multiple’ Assassin’s Creed games will be available to play on Xbox for free during the ‘Free Play Days’ event in April. That’s set to run from April 2 to April 6, although there’s no word yet on exactly which Assassin’s Creed games will be included in the event.

So, while we might not be getting a brand new Assassin’s Creed game for a while – it seems like Black Flag Resynced won’t be hitting screens until 2027 – maybe a return to Paris in 60fps is the best we’ll have to settle for.
