A busy stretch of the M5 motorway has been closed this evening following a « police incident », with emergency services rushing to the scene. The southbound section of the motorway between junction 18 (Avonmouth) and junction 19 (Portishead) is closed « while emergency services respond to a concern for welfare incident ».
Traffic monitoring site Inrix has reported « long delays due to a police incident » from junction 18 M49 to junction 19 A369 Martcombe Road (Portishead). There is also heavy traffic leading to junction 17 (Cribbs Causeway). » An Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson said: « The M5 southbound carriageway is currently closed between junction 18 (Avonmouth) and junction 19 (Portishead) while emergency services respond to a concern for welfare incident.
