Jurgen Klopp throws twist in Man Utd next manager hunt as boss ‘on verge of Red Bull exit’ | Football | Sport

Jurgen Klopp’s next career decision could influence Manchester United’s forthcoming managerial search. The 58-year-old was appointed Global Head of Soccer at Red Bull’s football operation, where he oversees their sides in Leipzig, Salzburg, Bragantino/Brazil and New York.

Yet reports emerging from Austria suggest Klopp may be set to depart from his position. It’s believed the former Liverpool boss could exit his role amid struggles across all clubs within the franchise to challenge for silverware. Should he depart, it could affect United’s managerial strategy as Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner, who has been touted for a switch to Old Trafford, has reportedly been identified as Klopp’s potential successor.

Austrian publication Salzburger Nachrichten claim that the Red Bull franchise have settled on Glasner as their preferred candidate to succeed Klopp. The Austrian has already confirmed his departure from Selhurst Park when the season ends.

Having previously served as a sporting coordinator and assistant coach at RB Salzburg, the FA Cup winner has been characterised as « confident in his ability to take on Klopp’s role. »

Palace’s performances in 2026 have nosedived, leading to a substantial portion of the club’s supporters turning against Glasner.

As a result, some have questioned whether the former Eintracht Frankfurt boss possesses the capacity to handle the demands of the United position.

The i claim that there is considerable scepticism amongst United’s hierarchy regarding Glasner’s appointment. Senior figures at Old Trafford reportedly believe his capabilities may mirror those of Ruben Amorim, who departed in January.

The gap separating them from third-placed Aston Villa now matches their advantage over fifth-placed Chelsea. Carrick is currently expected to remain in charge of United only until the campaign concludes.

Nevertheless, his record of five wins and one stalemate has thrust United into Champions League qualification territory.

Alongside Glasner, Gareth Southgate, Roberto De Zerbi and Julian Nagelsmann have similarly been linked with the United position.
