Holidays are expensive, so wherever you travel, you will want to make the most of your time away. One of the best ways to capitalise on this is by making sure you choose the right time of year to visit your destination of choice.
This can make or break your holiday, especially if you want it to coincide with warmer weather or local festivals. One seasoned traveller has given his rundown of which cities he recommends visiting for each month of the year. Known to his TikTok followers as ‘Rob on the beach’, Rob is one of the travel experts at UK travel agent On The Beach and gives out tricks and tips on his social media platforms.

He said he often gets asked where is best for a city break for different months of the year so he said he was going to compile a list in one place to help.
Speaking on TikTok, Rob said: « I’ve built the perfect 12-month city break calendar for 2026 based on weather, what’s on, my own opinions and my experience so you can always have a break in the calendar without spending a fortune. »
While January is already behind us, Rob had recommended Budapest, citing its « rock bottom prices » as a good start to the year.
If you are still looking to squeeze in a last-minute dash to the airport, Venice is perfect for February, according to Rob, as it is carnival season despite the chilly weather.
For March, Rob said: « With temperatures around 10 to 12 degrees in March, tulip season starting, prices still nice and low, this is the month the city wakes up before the tourists arrive. For March, I can recommend a break in Amsterdam. »
If you are looking to get away in April, the expert said Athens has perfect walking weather between 18 and 22 with some major sightseeing to tick off your list.

Rob said: « For May, I have chosen a massively underrated city with warm but comfortable temperatures at 22 to 25 degrees, and that’s before the peak heat. Markets buzzing, ferries are running, prices are still really fair, you’re missing out if you don’t give Istanbul a try. »
In June, Rob recommends heading to Boston as he says you can soak up the World Cup atmosphere. July is perfect for Krakow, according to the expert, while he also suggests a UK city for August, suggesting Edinburgh is the best place for a summer break, as many festivals take place in August.
He suggests jetting off to Germany in September for the start of Oktoberfest. In particular, Rob says Munich is his city of choice.
Rob said: « October 2026 will be the perfect month to visit Spain’s hottest city. It’s quieter, the heat’s still perfect, and you’ll find some of the best food in Europe there. In October, you’d be daft not to visit Seville. »
Naples is Rob’s choice for November, citing the warm weather and the lack of tourists as we approach the end of the year.
And in December, Rob recommends some perfect Christmas markets with a dramatic cathedral backdrop. Cologne is his top pick to finish the year.
