Oscar and BAFTA nominee Jessie Buckley has revealed she’d be willing to star in Denis Villeneuve’s James Bond film — but only under two conditions.

Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Jessie, 36, made it clear she would only take on the role if her Hamnet co-star Paul Mescal was Bond.

The acclaimed actress went further, saying she’d be even more persuaded to take on the role of a Bond girl if the film were to be set in Ireland, where both she and Paul were raised.

When quizzed about whether she’d like to feature in a Denis Villeneuve Bond film alongside Paul, Jessie enthusiastically replied: « Yes please. As long as I can be the Bond girl and we can set it in Ireland. »

The Irish star has been widely tipped as one of the frontrunners to become the next Bond girl following her triumphant appearance at the Golden Globes, where she took home the best actress award.

Separately, Jessie opened up to Deadline about her views on romance, confessing: « I think love is terrifying. I have been scared of love for a lot of my life. »

She revealed it took her a « long while » to understand what the word love « even meant for me », adding: « Sometimes love at first sight, it’s too much of a project idea…you can’t just make a meal. You have to cook it. »

Beyond Hamnet, Jessie Buckley also stars alongside Christian Bale in The Bride, whilst Paul Mescal has been spotted filming for one of four forthcoming Beatles biopics.

Recently, Jessie has secured a best actress Oscar nomination at the Academy Awards, alongside best actress in a leading role at this year’s BAFTA Film Awards, taking place this weekend.

Her eagerness to feature in the 007 franchise emerges alongside ongoing speculation regarding several leading men who are competing to succeed Daniel Craig, whose Bond met his demise in No Time To Die.

Since the final James Bond film premiered in 2021, persistent rumours have suggested that figures including Paul Mescal, Jacob Elordi, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson might be candidates to portray the iconic spy.

More recently, another contender has emerged in British actor Callum Turner, who was questioned about the prospect whilst promoting his new film Rosebush Pruning.

The Express reported that a body language expert identified three intriguing signals coming from Callum during this line of questioning.

He said: « Callum is swinging his chair from side to side – that’s a big indicator that he’s being put under the spotlight and he’s feeling under pressure.

« He’s trying to keep cool and calm. He looks like he’s excited to say something, but he can’t. Secondly, he’s pressing his lips together and the corners of his mouth goes inward.

« It’s like stopping himself saying something. The third indicator is his jaw tightening. You can see that his jaw bone goes stiff. That’s again trying to suppress an emotion. »
