Just under three hours from the UK is a stunning city that enjoys plenty of sunshine, warm temperatures and overall favourable conditions, even in the month of March. 2026 has been  a wet and cold year so far for the UK, and many Brits are likely sick of the grey and chilly days they have been putting up with. But other parts of Europe paint a very different picture. In the south of Spain, for example, temperatures are much higher, and there is generally more sunshine. 

In one city, which is already loved by many Brits, temperatures reach average highs of around 21C throughout the months of March, and it isn’t yet bombarded with tourists like in the summer months. Visiting a place when there are fewer tourists is not only good for your wallet and sanity (crowds make everything more stressful), but it is also better for locals, who say their daily lives are greatly affected when floods of tourists pour in during the high season. While the hottest temperatures are enjoyed in summer, this city is still relatively warm in March, making for a pleasant escape from the often gloomy British winter and spring. 

The city, which is full of art, culture, beautiful architecture and amazing food, is Seville. From London, it only takes around 2 hours and 45 minutes to get to Seville. There are also direct flights from airports in the North of England and Scotland, and they are only slightly longer.

Seville is not a coastal city, but the coast is pretty accessible by car and train. However, it is a city break rather than a beach holiday. While average highs are around 21C in March, they get gradually warmer leading up to summer, with highs of 22C in April, 26C in May, 32C in June and a staggering 36C in July. 

Seville is one of those cities where you can simply walk around and take in all of the architectural beauty. Standouts in the city include Plaza de España, Real Alcazar de Sevilla, Catedral De Sevilla and Barrio Santa Cruz, to name a few. 

There is also Parque de Maria Luisa, which is a true oasis in the city, as well as grand buildings like Casa de Pilatos.

One of the true highlights of Seville is the historic city centre, which tourists have praised for its beauty and charm. One TripAdvisor review said: « The centre of Seville is a historical masterpiece to just wander round and become entwined in its splendour. I loved walking the streets early morning just as the city is waking up and marvelling at the buildings. »

Flights to Seville can be relatively cheap with budget airlines. You can fly there from London with Ryanair for around £30, if you time it right. 

Seville is a relatively average-sized city, with a population of under 700,000 people. It is surrounded by some beautiful countryside, and is also not too far from other highlights in this region of Spain. 

From Seville, it is relatively easy to get to places like the city of Córdoba, the charming town of Ronda and the coastal city of Cádiz. You can do a day trip to the coast or to a smaller Spanish town to make the most of your time there. 

For history lovers, Seville is a fantastic place to be. Historic houses and museums include the Archivo General de Indias, the Centro Ceramica Triana pottery and kiln museum, and the Archaeological Museum of Seville.
