World’s most beautiful views’ are just 2 hours from UK | Europe | Travel

You don’t need to travel far to see some of the most beautiful views in the world, and the good news is, a snap of cold weather can make them even more spectacular.

Norway has been crowned the country with the world’s most beautiful views and with flights from the UK taking under two hours, it could be the perfect short break destination.

One of Norway’s biggest draws is its proximity to the Northern Lights, and most tourists head to Tromsø in an attempt to get the best view. While the city is at the heart of the Northern Lights belt, meaning you can sometimes get good views between September and March, cloudy conditions can block the lights.

Your best bet is to stay in Tromsø and book a Northern Lights tour, as this will take you to more remote locations where you can get the best views. Many tour operators offer Northern Light guarantees, so if you don’t see the lights on your first try, you get a second chance for free.

From Tromsø, you can also hop on a fjord cruise and enjoy the spectacular arctic landscapes from the water. Although this is a year-round activity, winter is a good time to book a boat tour for whale watching, and the views over the icy fjords are particularly beautiful.

Many people don’t realise that Norway has the longest coastline in Europe at just over 51,000 miles. In fact, the only country in the world with a longer coastline than Norway is Canada. Haukland Beach, found on Vestvågøy Island, is often considered one of the country’s most beautiful. It has white sands, lush green mountains on one side, and turquoise waters on the other. There are some hiking trails where you can really take in the coastal views from the mountain peaks.

More adventurous travellers might want to visit nearby Kvalvika Beach. Accessible only on foot, with the walk taking about an hour to 90-minutes, this cove is completely unspoilt and offers a peaceful escape. Some visitors also choose to wild camp in the warmer months, waking up to the spectacular views.

One of Norway’s best views can be found on the Stegastein viewing platform, a wood and steel structure that has been built 650 metres above Aurlandsfjord. Accessible for wheelchairs and strollers, it’s a great way to see the beauty of the fjords without needing to hike, and a number of shuttle buses carry visitors up the mountain so you can avoid driving up the mountain roads.

It’s therefore no surprise that the beautiful country came out top for having the most beautiful views, in a study carried out by DiscoverCars.com which surveyed over 5,000 drivers who’d taken holiday road trips and asked them to rate the views they saw on a scale of one to 10.
