Whiten teeth naturally with 1 snack that costs just 75p

When it comes to whitening your teeth and brightening your smile, you may find yourself reaching for expensive toothpastes or whitening strips, but the answer could actually already be in the back of your fridge. Just a simple healthy snack can work wonders on your teeth, according to one dental expert.

Dr Jyothi Chintamani, a dental assistant at Dental Arch, has highlighted that raw, crunchy vegetables like carrots and celery act as natural polishing tools that can help reduce surface staining on teeth. She said: « People assume they need expensive whitening kits to make a difference, but the truth is far more reassuring. Everyday foods can support oral health in really practical ways.

« Raw carrots and celery behave a bit like tiny natural cleaning pads. Every chew helps to sweep away soft plaque and surface stains before they settle.

Switching out a sugary snack for some carrot sticks reduces sugar exposure and helps to clean your teeth, ensuring a brighter smile and healthier teeth.

This crunchy veg hack works by stimulating saliva, which is one of the body’s best defences, washing away food particles, neutralising acids and protecting enamel.

Dr Chintamani continued: « Carrots and celery are perfect because they are crisp, fibrous, and hold their shape as you chew.

« Apples can help too, although their acidity means rinsing with water afterwards is a good idea. The key is choosing something firm enough to get teeth working. »

However, she warns that this shouldn’t entirely replace brushing or professional treatment.

« Think of this as a small daily boost. It will not replace your toothbrush, but it absolutely helps maintain a cleaner, fresher-looking tooth surface between brushes. »
