This is the dramatic moment a Russian soldier was ambushed by a Ukrainian killer drone as he climbed a communications mast near the war zone. The fighter was on his way down the pole to establish an internet connection.
He was some 80ft above the ground when he was hit. His climb was needed after Elon Musk wrought havoc among Vladimir Putin’s troops by this month blocking them using reliable Starlink receivers, widely deployed by Ukrainian forces. The fate of the Russian soldier is not recorded but was likely ominous as the drone flew straight at him. War channel Military Informant said the soldier was climbing the mast to install ‘Wifi bridges’ for Russian troops.

Starlink had been used on the front line in areas “inaccessible to us for communication and coordination,” said the channel.
“This receiver could be dragged into any trench in the zero or grey zone, where it could be easily camouflaged and receive a stable signal. Now that’s gone.”
There is evidence Russian forces have lost territory due to the Starlink switch-off, in Zaporizhzhia region.
Unable to connect to the web with Starlink, Russian forces started to use the receivers as scrapers to remove ice from windscreens in the cold weather.
