Arsenal match ends in chaos as Gabriel Jesus clashes with Wolves star | Football | Sport

Gabriel Jesus lost his cool and pushed Wolves defender Yerson Mosquera as the final whistle blew and Arsenal dropped two points in a late 2-2 draw at Molineux. The Gunners’ draw ensured that the Premier League title is now in Manchester City’s hands, following a second consecutive league draw, as a result of Tom Edozie’s late goal on his debut.

Tensions boiled over when the final whistle blew as players rushed towards the middle of the pitch, where a frustrated Jesus pushed Mosquera in the chest, felling the Colombian star. The incident was described as « madness » by Sky Sports commentator Rob Hawthorne and the striker was shown a yellow card.

Gabriel turned to goalkeeper David Raya and screamed, following their mistake that led to the late equaliser. They collided under no pressure when a lofted ball was put into the box, which then fell to Edozie, and his shot hit Riccardo Calafiori and went over the line.

« David Raya came for it but Gabriel was in charge of it, » former Arsenal striker Alan Smith said on commentary for Sky Sports. « I don’t think Raya needed to come for it. That is so avoidable for Arsenal. What a blow this is for the league leaders, deep into stoppage time. »

Only moments later, there were needless scenes as Jesus shoved Mosquera to the floor, with some of his team-mates dragging him away and others left with heads in their hands at the result.

It’s clear from the expressions on the Arsenal players’ faces that this trip to Molineux could be a turning point in the title race, with Manchester City now given an opportunity to once again, usurp Mikel Arteta’s side.

« Feels like a vital one and maybe a turning point, » Smith added at full-time. « The way things unravelled at the end with [Leandro] Trossard trying to waste time and David Raya coming out. It doesn’t bode well for Arsenal trying to handle the pressure.

« They almost stepped off it and allowed Wolves back in the game. At 2-0, you’re thinking it’s home and hosed. The situation seems to be getting the better of them. »

Arsenal icon Paul Merson, on punditry duties for the broadcaster, added: « I know Arsenal have been in this position three times before but it might never happen again. Now, all of a sudden, it’s out of their hands after being so many points clear. »
