Volodymyr Zelensky laid bare his feelings about the bust-up that happened at the White House nearly one year ago in a new interview. The Ukrainian president spoke with Piers Morgan about his infamous meeting with Donald Trump and JD Vance, in which the leaders argued about capitulating to Russia and the protracted peace proces.
Nearly a year later, Zelensky was asked whether he felt « humiliated » during the interaction as he, outnumbered, tried to defend himself and his country. Morgan said: « People said, President Zelensky, that you were humiliated in the Oval Office that day. Did you feel that? »
Zelensky responded: « Not me. I had a feeling that Ukraine was in the position, and our people – you know – after all these days and years, after all this pain, I thought that it was not just to us. »
The Ukrainian leader also recently took aim at Trump’s approach to securing an end to the war.
In an interview with Axios, he said the Ukrainian people would reject a peace deal that involves Ukraine withdrawing from the eastern Donbas region and handing it over to Russia.
While he said he is ready to discuss troop withdrawals, he called on Moscow to pull its forces back by an equivalent distance and rejected Russia’s claims over the Donbas region.

Zelensky also noted that both Washington and Kyiv have agreed that any deal must be put to a referendum before the Ukrainian people.
However, if that agreement involves Ukrainian troops withdrawing from Donbas, it would be voted down.
He said: « Emotionally, people will never forgive this. Never. They will not forgive… me, they will not forgive [the US]. This is part of our country, all these citizens, the flag, the land. »
