Harry and Meghan’s ‘betrayal’ sparks ‘fall out between William and ITV host’ | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Prince William severed his friendship with an ITV personality after feeling « betrayed » over his documentary involvement with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The documentary, shot during the Sussexes’ tour of South Africa in 2019, marked a turning point in the royal brothers’ strained relationship as it was the first time Harry responded to claims of a rift between the pair, where the duke disclosed he and his brother were on « different paths ».

The ITV documentary marked a watershed moment in the brothers’ relationship as Harry addressed speculation for the first time regarding a rift between him and William, noting they experienced « good days » and « bad days ». Meanwhile, Meghan spoke about her challenges balancing motherhood with relentless media attention and remarked that few people had enquired whether she was OK.

The Prince of Wales believed ITV News presenter Tom Bradby had « crossed a line », according to a new royal biography. William and Catherine: The Intimate Inside Story, by The Mirror’s royal editor Russell Myers, discloses how until that moment, William had developed a close bond with Bradby during his stint as royal correspondent for the broadcaster.

However, the book reveals that William was left feeling « betrayed and severely let down » after the journalist participated in the documentary, in which both Harry and Meghan discussed their struggles within the Royal Family.

The insider told The Mirror: « William felt betrayed and severely let down. He considered Tom a friend, they had always got on and Harry was close to him too, but [William] never thought [Bradby] would take a side like he did. »

The book suggests that a major bone of contention for William was Bradby’s apparent reluctance to question Harry or Meghan about the internal affairs of the royal household – with sources in the biography asserting that most of the family had ensured Meghan felt welcomed.

The source further commented: « Tom knew full well what Meghan was accused of and chose not to raise it in the documentary, whilst she ran roughshod over the family. As far as [William] was concerned, the friendship was over there and then. »

In the Mirror’s exclusive serialisation of the new biography, it is also disclosed how the Princess of Wales showed less enthusiasm than Prince William in attempting to prevent the Duke and Duchess of Sussex from departing royal duties, considering Prince Harry‘s exit from his position « inevitable ».

In additional disclosures, the future queen ultimately recognised she « could do no more to bring the brothers together » – despite formerly being a « voice of reason » throughout the breakdown of their relationship.
