BBC Winter Olympics commentator fumes at Brits – ‘have to call it out’ | Other | Sport

One BBC Winter Olympics commentator was left fuming with two Team GB athletes on Day 10 of the Games in Northern Italy. Great Britain’s spirits were raised over the weekend when Brits took home three gold medals from three different events.

Matt Weston topped the podium twice, once in the individual men’s skeleton race and then again with Tabitha Stoecker for the mixed event. Meanwhile, Charlotte Bankes and Huw Nightingale also finished first in the snowboard mixed event, with what marked Team GB’s first-ever gold medal on snow.

However, it doesn’t look as if they’ll be more glory in the two-man bobsleigh event, given the British pair endured a difficult outing on Monday afternoon. Brad Hall and Taylor Lawrence were in the Team GB sleigh, but finished the second of four heats all the way down in eighth.

BBC commentator John Hunt wasn’t particularly impressed with what he’d seen, saying: “This is not good, we have to call it out. This is not good. They’ve had so many mistakes, some of them small, but goodness me that was very disappointing.”

The duo did front up after their disappointing second run, with Hall telling the BBC: “It was definitely a difficult one. It’s why difficult to be consistent down this track twice. The first one wasn’t too bad, couple of mistakes down the bottom, but the second one was a bit of a fight up the top. Lots of people jumping around in that second run, some people coming up, some coming down. It was very exciting, but hopefully we can clean it up and be better tomorrow.”

Meanwhile, Lawrence added: “The start for us is the key part, so trying to give Brad [the pilot] the best start as possible. Fighting with the best starters is what I should be doing to give Brad the best velocity going into the track. A little bit disappointing to have a slightly slower start in the second run, ultimately we’ll go out tomorrow, up the starts and hopefully Brad can put together two storming runs.”
