Chelsea receive fresh financial boost after pocketing over £42million | Football | Sport

Chelsea pocketed £127,000 for their victory over Hull City in the FA Cup, just weeks after raking in more than £42million. The Premier League team trounced the Championship side 4-0 at MKM Stadium on Friday, securing their spot in the fifth round of the tournament. Pedro Neto’s first senior hat-trick and Estevao’s inaugural FA Cup goal led Liam Rosenior’s squad to triumph.

Just for taking part in the European competition, the Blues are set to receive £16.18m from UEFA. An additional £9.71m in performance-related bonuses will be handed to the Club World Cup champions, as the European governing body awards £1.82m per win and £607k per draw.

Because UEFA also provides £239,000 per final position in the table, the Blues collected an additional £7.41m for finishing sixth in the standings. Further earnings of £9.56m are to be banked by Chelsea following their top-eight finish which enables them to progress directly to the last 16.

In total, Chelsea’s Champions League campaign saw them secure £42.86m in prize money. They return to European action next month but their knockout stage fixtures will take place after the fifth round of the FA Cup.

After the final whistle, Rosenior was questioned about the criticism Neto occasionally faces to which he responded: « I’m not aware of it. I don’t know why that would be the case because Pedro Neto gives us so many qualities. He’s a world-class player, a world-class winger. What he sacrifices for the team all the time. »

It was an historic night for the Portuguese winger who admitted he was uncertain whether he secured the hat-trick due to Jorrel Hato initially being credited for the second goal. « I think the mentality of the team was amazing, » Neto said.

« We came to a tough place, winning 4-0 away. This competition is really tough. So we are really happy to go through to the next round. To be honest, on the second goal, I was in doubt if it was mine or not. At the end of the game, I went to the referee and asked whether it was a hat-trick or not.

« Did I have the right to the ball? He said, « Yeah, yeah, you have the right! But most of all, I’m happy that we went through. We did an unbelievable performance against a tough team away and I think it’s a well-deserved win. »
