Meghan Markle’s claim she ‘Googled’ Royal Family tradition dismissed | Royal | News

When discussing what led to their departure from royal life and the UK, famously known as Megxit, Meghan claimed that no one helped her learn what was required in royal life. Instead, the Duchess has claimed that she had to take it upon herself to learn certain things, with the National Anthem being one of these.

The Duchess told Oprah: « Even down to like the National Anthem. No one thought to say, ‘Oh, you’re American, you’re not gonna know that.”

She continued: « That’s me late at night Googling what’s the National Anthem, I’ve got to learn this, I don’t want to embarrass them. I need to learn these three hymns for church, all of this is televised, we were doing the training behind the scenes because I just wanted to make them proud. »

While it cannot be confirmed whether Meghan knew the National Anthem before becoming a royal, many royal fans believe her claim is untrue.

One person wrote on X: “It wouldn’t even take long to learn. And she was never required to memorise hymns – she would have had a pamphlet with the words on it.”

Another said: “Wasn’t she supposedly an actress? Someone who was used to memorising lines?”

Someone else commented: “She knew she was marrying into the British Family. Surely she’d been to British events beforehand which played it, sport, the proms. As for hymns, they play them in church so the rest of the world knows them and often you get the words in a song book.”

Another person wrote: “Why would she need anyone helping her with this (the national anthem)? And what sort of help would she need?”
