Tottenham draw up five-man list for next manager as Mauricio Pochettino spotted in London | Football | Sport

They currently sit 16th in the table and are at serious risk of being dragged into another relegation battle following their 17th-placed finish last season. Despite their dreadful league form, Spurs are into the knockout stages of the Champions League after sailing through the league phase in fourth place. However, their exploits in Europe weren’t enough to save Frank from being given the boot.

Tottenham are now in the process of appointing a new manager and have shortlisted five candidates, according to The Telegraph.

The report states that Marco Rose and Edin Terzic are among those on the list, although it’s not clear if they are viewed as permanent or interim options.

Roberto De Zerbi, Mauricio Pochettino and Robbie Keane are also believed to be under consideration, with interviews now taking place and agents being contacted over the vacant manager’s job.

It’s been reported that Keane, who is currently in charge of Ferencvaros, would only be interested in a permanent role and wouldn’t consider only steering the ship until the end of the season.

Pochettino, meanwhile, was spotted in London this week but is understood to be fully committed to leading the United States into a home World Cup in the summer.

Speaking to Sky Sports last year, he said: « When I left the club I always remember one interview I said I would like one day to come back to Tottenham.

« I am in the USA, so I am not going to talk about that now, but what I said then I still, after six years or five years, feel in my heart. Yes, I would like one day to come back. »

Pochettino once again hinted at a possible return to Spurs a few days ago, claiming their recent achievements are ‘not enough’ for a club of that stature.

During an appearance on the High Performance Podcast, he said: « To win a Europa League, that the team won, is good, but it’s not enough.

« It is not enough to challenge for the Carabao Cup, or the FA Cup, or the Europa League, or the Conference League. It’s a club that should be, or needs to be because the fans, what they expect is, to be in the Champions League.

« Fighting for the Champions League, trying to believe that you can win the Champions League and also fighting for the Premier League and believing that you can win the Premier League. »
