Ukraine has launched a devastating attack on a Russian ammunition facility as it responds to nightly strikes on its energy infrastructure and cities. The Ukrainian attack forced thousands of Russians to be evacuated from their homes in the Volgograd region as explosions hit the 265,000 ton munitions facility in Kotluban.
In another attack, Ukrainian forces hit a major Russian plant making missile guidance systems in Tambov region, triggering explosions and fire at Michurinsk. The attacks occurred as Russia targeted Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities with ballistic missiles overnight. Volograd Regional Governor Andrey Bocharov confirmed the evacuation of civilians as Vladimir Putin’s arsenal store came under fire.
He said: “In order to ensure the safety of the civilian population from the threat of detonation during fire extinguishing, an evacuation of the population of the nearby settlement of Kotluban has been announced and is being carried out.
“Buses have been prepared and sent for the evacuation. Civil defence shelters have been set up.”
The strike on the Main Missile and Artillery Directorate [GRAU] ammunition storage base comes as a major blow to Putin, bringing the war right into Russian territory.
The GRAU base was used to store missiles and artillery weapons while the Progress Plant in Michurinsk in the Tambov region, produces equipment for aviation and missile systems.
