It will shut its first branches since going bust in what has been described by shoppers as a « massive blow ». (Image: -)
A high street retailer has gone under – with its initial four branches now closing following administration. The Original Factory Shop, known as TOFS, will shutter its first outlets since collapsing, in what customers have branded a « massive blow. »
The Original Factory Shop (TOFS) shut its Prudhoe, Northumberland premises this week, a development locals described as a « massive blow » to the town centre.
« Unfortunately, due to our contract not being renewed, we will no longer be trading from our store inside the Co-op, » the company said in an official statement. « While this is not the outcome we would have hoped for, we are incredibly grateful for the loyalty, kindness, and support you have shown our team. »
Modella Capital characterised the decision as « very tough. »
Local councillor Gordon Stewart, who represents Prudhoe South, said: « This is a massive blow to the high streets, our store in Prudhoe is so popular with many local families and people travel from miles around. »
Three TOFS sites in Northern Ireland have also been earmarked for permanent closure: Ballycastle and Portrush in County Antrim alongside Warrenpoint in County Down.
