God of War TV series reveals Atreus actor in huge break from the games | Gaming | Entertainment

Amazon has found the actor to play Atreus alongside Ryan Hurst’s Kratos with Callum Vinson set to take on the role of the young god.

The young actor is most widely known for his role as Henry Collins in the most recent Chucky TV series. He’s also set to star as a young Jason Voorhees in the Friday the 13th prequel series ‘Crystal Lake‘ for Peacock.

Vinson joins the rest of the God of War cast, which appears to be filling out pretty nicely over the last few weeks. Other notable characters already cast from the game include Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Mandy Patinkin as Odin, and Alastair Duncan reprising his role as Mimir.

A press release tied to Vinson’s casting describes the character of Atreus as follows: “Atreus, the ten-year old son of Kratos, grew up in a remote forest cabin, isolated from the rest of the world and raised almost entirely by his mother Faye.

“He is an accomplished archer, has an affinity for animals and is intensely curious about what lies beyond the confines of his forest home. After his mother’s death, Atreus is left with a cold, distant father who he barely knows and who knows little about him in return.

“Nonetheless, Atreus yearns for his father’s approval and is desperate to prove he is strong enough to survive in a harsh and dangerous world.”

The press release also confirms that pre-production on the show is already underway in Vancouver. There’s currently no word on when the show is expected to release, but we’d expect it to be no earlier than mid-way through 2027 given the current production schedule.

Amazon confirms that the show is currently commissioned for two seasons and will closely follow the story of Sony Santa Monica’s games.

Given the casting announcements, it seems that Amazon might be doing some time jumping between the two game’s timelines. Thor and Odin don’t show up until the events of Ragnarok, and yet both of those characters have been cast to appear in Season 1.

It could be that the show will start from where Ragnarok kicks off, relying on flashbacks to tell the story of the 2018 game.

Despite the apparent departure from the game’s timeline, the show is arriving at an exciting time for video game adaptations. Fallout recently finished airing its second season with a score of 96% on Rotten Tomatoes.
