A woman who allegedly hacked off her partner’s genitals before going shopping with her hands covered in blood has been arrested in northern Spain on suspicion of murder. The horror claims about the circumstances surrounding the violent death in Bilbao were made as police confirmed the detention.
The 55-year-old woman is South American and the victim has been described as “European”, with detectives refusing to confirm his nationality. They are declining to comment on the genital slash and shopping claims first aired by Spanish TV station Telecinco. The arrest took place on Friday morning at a property in a residential neighbourhood of Bilbao called Uribarri which is near to the city’s old town.
The Ertzaintza, the autonomous police force for the Basque country, said in a statement today: “A 55-year-old woman was arrested this morning in Bilbao on suspicion of murdering her partner, a 67-year-old man of European origin, at their home in the Uribarri neighbourhood.
The Ertzaintza went to a home in the Uribarri neighbourhood of Bilbao after receiving a report of a suspected homicide.
“Officers found the body of a man inside with clear signs of having suffered a violent death.
« A 55-year-old woman of Latin American origin was also at the home, who said that she had killed her partner, for which she was arrested on suspicion of murder.
“We have opened an investigation to determine the circumstances of the incident.”
A spokesman for the force said it wouldn’t be revealing the nationality of the man or commenting on the reports about the victim having his genitals cut off.
Neighbours said the couple lived in a fifth-floor rented flat and described the victim as a bar owner who had lived in the area all his life before being joined by his partner around four years ago.
Investigative journalist Alfonso Egea, a regular Telecinco contributor, wrote on X: “A woman has handed herself in in Bilbao after stabbing her husband to death and amputating his genitals.
“After the crime she went shopping with bloodstained hands.”
