Shocking video shows royal guard shove climate activist to the ground | Royal | News

The shocking moment a Danish royal guard shoved a climate protester to the ground has gone viral on social media. The incident occurred when a member of the Den Kongelige Livgarde (The Royal Life Guards) took action during one of King Frederik and Queen Mary of Denmark’s annual New Year’s Eve parties.

The short clip has been shared widely on various platforms and shows the activist holding up an orange sign before being pushed by the guard with one arm. The protestor falls onto the stone ground as the guard is applauded by members of the public who had gathered to see the King and Queen.

When approached for comment, a spokesman for the Danish Royal Guards said: « We have no comment on the video in question. »

The video went viral on social media after King Frederik and Queen Mary hosted three New Year’s parties to ring in the beginning of 2026.

The first was held for Supreme Court judges, the Royal Life Guards and the Guard Hussar Regiment’s officer corps at Christian VII’s Palace at Amalienborg Palace in Copenhagen.

The second was hosted for mayors and regional council chairmen. The third saw Their Majesties travel to nearby Christiansborg Palace to host members of the diplomatic corps for the final party.

The shocking video is not the first time that the Danish guards have been under fire, as a bombshell television documentary last year uncovered an alleged secret drug culture within the Danish Royal Guards.

Livgarden på stoffer (translated as The Royal Guard on Drugs) revealed an incident which reportedly took place in the summer of 2023, when three young guards filmed themselves snorting cocaine off a ceremonial sword inside their barracks at Gothersgade in Copenhagen.

The documentary report stated: « A guy stands wearing only his underpants and a bandolier. He draws his sabre and points it in the air. ‘Form a parade,’ he commands, before lowering his sabre and holding it horizontally away from him. »

It then reportedly showed the men placing a « strip of cocaine on the curved blade », while the guard in underwear « bends his head forward and sniffs the cocaine ».
