Donald Trump has been accused of « gingerly » walking down the steps of Air Force One has scrutiny over his health increases. The US president arrived in Florida on December 20 and returned to Washington DC on January 4. During his journey, he went via an airbase in Maryland to switch from Air Force One to Marine One.
However, Mr Trump appeared to struggle as the descened the steps of his plane, gripping the handrail with his eyes fixed on the red carpet at the bottom. As he takes his first step, he seemingly lets his leg abruptly drop down onto the stairyway before him before grabbing a second handrail for support.
The president then tackles the second half of the steps, even slower this time, pausing when he reaches the tarmac to salute officials and wave to the press.
On his short walk to Marine One, Mr Trump starts veering to the left, away from the door. He also appears to be dragging his right leg before he manages to make it up the steps to Marine One.
This comes after the president told The Wall Street Journal that he’s received medical advice for multiple issues. He visited Walter Reed Military Medical Center in July after « mild swelling » in his lower legs, he said.
An ultrasound revealed that he has « chronic venous insufficiency » – a condition where leg veins struggle to pump blood back to the heart due to faulty valves, causing blood to pool and leading to swelling.
Mr Trump « gingerly » walking down the stairs, as The Daily Beast put it, comes after he was caught « slurring » his words during a press conference following his order for troops to apprehend Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores
