Liverpool news: Salah ‘flying to Saudi Arabia’ as star waves goodbye | Football | Sport

Liverpool’s season appears to be back on track, with Arne Slot’s side going unbeaten in their last five matches. After a strong start with five straight victories, the Reds hit a rough patch, suffering losses to Manchester United, Manchester City, Brentford and Nottingham Forest.

Their recent 2-0 triumph over Brighton, courtesy of a brace from Hugo Ekitike, should give them the momentum they need to make a success of the 2025/2026 campaign. Next up is an away match against Tottenham. Spurs, like Liverpool, have been struggling for form and will be keen to recover after a 3-0 defeat to Forest. As the busy festive period gets underway, Slot will be hoping his team can secure results while star player Mohamed Salah is away at AFCON. Ahead of this weekend’s match, Express Sport brings you all the latest news from Anfield.

Salah flying to Saudi Arabia

Salah’s flight has reportedly been diverted to Saudi Arabia ahead of AFCON. The forward’s future remains uncertain following his outspoken comments after taking on Leeds.

However, he was back in action against Brighton, assisting Ekitike’s second goal. According to Saudi broadcaster Al-Riyadiya, Salah will travel to Jeddah before joining his Egyptian colleagues in Morocco.

The primary purpose of his visit is to perform the Umrah pilgrimage, and he may also meet with the Saudi Ministry of Tourism.

Star to say farewell

Under-16s player Kai Morrall has bid farewell to Liverpool following eight years at the club.

He joined as an under-9s signing and has now become an international player with Ireland. Taking to Instagram to announce his departure, the teenager penned: « After 8 years at Liverpool, it is time for me to say goodbye.

« I would like to thank all the staff and the coaches that helped me develop into a better player and a person.

« I will miss the memories and friends I made along the way; however, I am looking forward to starting a new chapter and hopefully more things to come. »

Young Morrall is bound for Leeds, with Leeds Live reporting that a nominal compensation fee will be paid by the West Yorkshire club. He’ll complete the switch next year.
