Boots has been preparing for Christmas for months, offering great gifting options, from Advent calendars to its weekly updated Star Gifts. With the big day just over a week away, there’s still time to grab a present for a beauty lover in your life, and if you’re unsure of exactly what to get, a beauty box is a good place to start.
The Boots Beauty Drop Beauty Box is packed with £178 worth of products for just £40 and contains a fairly versatile selection of products for a head-to-toe pampering, from skincare and haircare to fragrance and makeup.
According to the retailer, if bought individually, the products are collectively worth £178.40, but with the edit costing £40, you can save over 77.5% in value.
It’s particularly impressive considering six of the items inside are full-size. Compared to other sets on the market, where mini or travel sizes tend to outweigh full-size products, this one really feels like a steal, whether you’re planning to keep it for yourself or give it as a gift.
This would suit a beauty enthusiast keen to try products from popular brands like Caudalie and Hello Sunday, but it could also work well as a present for someone who doesn’t have a dedicated beauty routine and simply enjoys trying new things.
If you buy the beauty box for yourself but don’t love every single product, it could even be split into smaller stocking stuffers, helping you save on presents too.
Starting with skincare, there is a cleanser from First Aid beauty that is suitable for sensitive skin and can be used day and night. To hydrate the skin, there’s also a hyaluronic acid serum from The Ordinary, which is meant to be used under your favourite moisturiser to help lock moisture into the skin.
Because we should protect our skin from the sun even in winter, the set also includes a moisturising serum from Hello Sunday with SPF 50. It’s formulated with hyaluronic acid and vitamin C and claims to protect against UVA/UVB rays, pollution and blue light. This is one of my favourites in the selection, as it’s lightweight enough to layer over other products without feeling greasy, which SPF can sometimes be guilty of.
Another popular product in the collection is Caudalie’s Beauty Elixir, a face mist enriched with antioxidant green grape, orange blossom, and peppermint, rose, rosemary and lemon balm essential oils. The brand suggests using the mist as a toner after cleansing, to prime and soothe the skin before applying makeup, or even to set a makeup look.
Speaking of makeup, there aren’t that many products in this box, so it might not be the best choice for dedicated makeup enthusiasts. There is, however, a multi-use product from Iconic London — a highlighter blush that can be used all over the face to add colour and glow to makeup looks.
There’s also an OPI nail polish in a trendy lavender shade that you’ll be able to wear through spring and summer, too. It’s currently out of stock on its own, so the box is the only way to get it.
To keep you hydrated all over, there is also a full-sized conditioner for coloured hair from FUL that claims to lock in pigment while keeping strands nourished and shiny.
Not limiting skincare to the face, there’s also a Q+A body lotion formulated with salicylic acid, which claims to help keep body blemishes under control while keeping skin smooth and hydrated.
The last product in the collection is a 10ml mini fragrance from Floral Street, in the scent Sweet Almond Blossom. It’s a fresh fragrance with notes of pink pomelo, passion fruit, vanilla, sandalwood and matcha tea.
The beauty box has received positive reviews on Boots’ website, with many people including it as part of their Christmas shopping.
One said: « A real treat in a box – all products are high end – I love the facial serums and the perfume smells beautiful. An absolute bargain!! »
Another happy customer said: « Fantastic box with lots of stuff, great value, lovely for ga ift or a treat for yourself. »
Two separate reviews came from shoppers who had bought multiple items. One said they « loved everything in this box and bought three of them. »
One shopper, who bought the box three months ago, said: « I have a lot of presents to buy at Christmas, so I have to start early, and this particular one is for my great-granddaughter in her Christmas stocking. I have purchased many gifts from Boots in the past and will continue to do so as they are always well received, they are good quality, and the prices on their special offers are great. »
