Rio Ferdinand makes Man Utd transfer demand during Bournemouth draw | Football | Sport

Rio Ferdinand has called on Manchester United to buy Antoine Semenyo following his strike in Bournemouth’s thrilling 4-4 draw at Old Trafford. The Cherries’ forward opened the scoring on an extraordinary Monday evening, extending his impressive run of form this campaign.

Semenyo capitalised on a Luke Shaw error to burst through and slot home via the inside of the post in the 40th minute. His finish brought the score to 1-1 after United had controlled the early exchanges. The forward has now netted seven times in the Premier League this term and has caught the eye of several clubs as the January transfer window approaches.

Both Liverpool and Manchester City are understood to be aware that the Ghana international has a £65million release clause written into his Bournemouth deal.

However, ex-United defender Ferdinand is keen for Semenyo to wind up at Old Trafford rather than Anfield or the Etihad Stadium, and made his views known on social media.

United posted: « Goal. Antoine Semenyo levels for the visitors. »

Ferdinand responded: « Don’t let him leave after the game, » accompanied by a crying laughing emoji.

That was merely one of his numerous observations whilst watching the chaotic encounter from home. He was thrilled with the first half, which saw United head into the interval 2-1 ahead thanks to goals from Amad Diallo and Casemiro.

He posted: « Best 45 minutes under [Ruben] Amorim at Old Trafford… tempo, passing thru the lines, chances created. [Ayden] Heaven + [Lenny] Yoro looking assured. Lapse in focus for the goal, but reacted well! »

Ferdinand may well feel frustrated regarding Semenyo, particularly as United have splashed out over £200million to bring in Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo during the summer transfer window.

However, Ghana manager Otto Addo remains confident that Semenyo will secure a move away from Bournemouth in due course.

« He has done very well at Bournemouth, but with all the respect for Bournemouth and what they’re doing, surely it is natural for him to take the next step, » he told The Athletic.

« Whether it’s in the winter or summer, it is a different question, but it won’t make a difference for us. I’m looking forward to him showing more of what he can to the world. »
