A father tragically died from a heart attack after learning that his son had been fatally stabbed on the same day. In the heartbreaking incident, 30-year-old Claudecir da Cruz Casanova was killed around 3.30am on Sunday in the Vila Ceres area of Santa Catarina, Brazil.
Police reported that he was stabbed in the neck and sadly passed away at the scene following a brawl between two groups leaving a dance hall that night. In a devastating turn of events, upon hearing of his son’s death, his father, 62-year-old Ademir Antônio Casanova, became ill and subsequently passed away. Both father and son were laid to rest on Monday in the Abelardo Luz municipal cemetery, according to the Brazilian news portal g1.
Meanwhile, military police located three suspects in Claudecir’s murder just 300 metres from the crime scene, one of whom had been stabbed in the back, but reportedly did not find the others.
Despite this, due to insufficient evidence, the three individuals were ultimately released, while the Abelardo Luz Police Station continues its investigation into the tragic event.
This follows reports of a teenager being killed in a lion attack after he scaled a 20ft fence at Parque Arruda Câmara zoo in João Pessoa, Brazil, reportedly using a tree to gain access to an enclosure.
Gerson de Melo Machado, 19, who is believed to have been suffering from mental health issues and schizophrenia, was attacked by a lioness upon landing. The incident reportedly triggered a massive emergency response.
The Institute of Forensic Science of Paraíba (IPC) initiated an investigation, and the zoo was closed in the wake of the attack, with the park expressing its « deep regret » over the incident.
A spokesperson stated: « This is an extremely sad episode for everyone, and we express our solidarity and condolences to the family and friends of the man, who has not yet been identified. As soon as the incident was reported, the park was immediately closed, following all safety protocols. »
The statement further noted: « Bica will remain closed to visitors until the conclusion of the investigations and official procedures, prioritising transparency and commitment to the safety of our visitors, employees and animals. »
In additional remarks, it highlighted that the park adheres to « rigorous technical standards » and « safety protocols, » adding that it was cooperating with the authorities involved to determine what transpired.
It continued to say that Arruda Câmara Park « expresses its solidarity » with the victim’s family and « wishes them strength. »
