Police swarm Post Office as man vanishes in ‘suspicious circumstances’ | UK | News

A community is in a state of panic as police vehicles swarm a Post Office branch, following a man’s disappearance.

Police are investigating « suspicious circumstances » after a man went missing from a Post Office in Bootle, Liverpool. Photos taken from outside the shop reveal shattered glass spread across the ground from the damaged front door. 

Merseyside Police said officers were called to the branch on Park Lane at around 6.30am following a report of concerns for the safety of a man at the premises.

A cordon has been established around the building as officers work to establish what happened and search for the missing man. Shattered glass is visible inside the cordon, with the bottom panel of the Post Office door completely smashed on the floor.

Forensic officers have been attending the scene, repeatedly entering and leaving the Park Lane store, located in an area known locally as the Dodge Estate.

Local residents have gathered near the cordon, whilst the neighbouring Park Lane General Store has also closed. Other shops along the parade remain open for business.

Speaking about the missing man, one resident said: « He’s a fighter, he’s a beautiful person. I go in there every morning. »

A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: « We were called to a report of suspicious circumstances in Bootle this morning, Friday 31 October.

« At around 6.30am we received a report of a concern for safety of man at a premises on Park Lane and enquiries are ongoing while we understand the circumstances, and efforts to locate the man. »

Officers remain at the scene, with no indication yet of when the cordon will be lifted.
