When it comes to popular holiday destinations, many Brits love Benidorm.
After all it’s reasonable, cheerful and boasts a big party atmosphere. It has all the ingredients for a fun sunsoaked break away in the sun.
But Brits are flocking to the destination at the moment for a very wild reason. Little you may know, things are already « heating up » for a special event.
As Cheltenham Festival kicks off this week, thousands of Brits are flocking to Spain for the occasion. The combination of Cheltenham and St Patrick’s Day has turned into one of the biggest weeks in the Benidorm calendar, and people are buzzing for the event.
A man, known as thebaldtiktoker on TikTok, recently shared footage showing how the atmosphere is building at bars and restaurants. It’s fair to say people are really getting in the mood for the event.
In footage shared online, you can see how busy it’s already starting to get. People are walking in the sun, enjoying time in the bars and embracing all the resort has to offer.
The weather also looks pretty good so those heading out may be able to catch some sunshine. Since it was shared, the video has been viewed hundreds of times and people were quick to comment too.
One person said: « Not for me Cheltenham, but I love Benidorm. Be back in October! » Another added: « I fly tomorrow at 7am from Manchester. »
A third replied: « Fly out on Sunday for St Paddy’s. Can’t wait – hopefully the sun in shining. »
Why do people visit Benidorm for the Cheltenham Festival?
Even though it may seem unusual, the reasons behind why people head to Benidorm are quite simple. Over the years, racing fans have found different ways to get their festival fix without actually attending the event.
The mixture of guaranteed sunshine, cheap beer and countless bars showing the races on big screens attracts many to the hotspot. As it’s made to sound so appealing, Cheltenham week has quickly become one of the busiest weeks of the year in Benidorm.
You could even say it marks the start of the build-up to the busy season before holiday mode gets officially activated. Benidorm is set to get a lot busier from now onwards.
