Chris Ashton believes Wales need a coach capable of providing fresh energy to the squad.
Wales parted company with Warren Gatland after their Six Nations defeat against Italy.
« Someone’s got to have a lot of energy, and they’ve got to want it, » Ashton told Wales Online. « You’ve got to be desperate. And people are saying, ‘Why would you take that risk? ‘But Wales is at the bottom line. They’re only going to go one way.
« If you’re a young coach, and you’ve got plenty of ideas and enthusiasm for it, » added Ashton, who finished the 2011 Six Nations as top try-scorer when England claimed the crown. « I don’t think it’s an older coach’s job. I just can’t see it being that.
« I think it needs a lot of energy, wants to be on the ground, in the clubs, desperate for things to change and willing to ruffle feathers in order to get change and help it progress. I think it’s that idea.”
