A 27-year-old British national tragically lost their life, while another Brit was injured during a trekking expedition in the Dhauladhar mountains of India.
On February 14, a 27-year-old British tourist named Howard Thomas Harry and his companion, Robert John Emerton, embarked on a trek from Dharamkot to the snowline via Triund in Dharamshala.
Unfortunately, their journey took a tragic turn on Sunday afternoon when Howard suffered an accident and sustained rib injuries while descending towards Dharamshala through Thathri.
“Around 4:30 p.m. IST, Howard suffered an accident and sustained rib injuries,” Indian police said.
Robert quickly sought help from the residents of Thathri, who promptly informed the authorities.
A rescue team, consisting of the fire department, police, and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), arrived at the scene late at night.
Despite their efforts, Howard succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased on Monday.
An official stated, « Howard was rescued but passed away from his wounds. »
Howard’s body was taken to Zonal Hospital in Dharamshala for a medical examination.
Once the necessary formalities are completed, his body will be handed over to the UK embassy as per police procedures.
