Ten people are confirmed dead, including the suspect. Six victims were discovered inside Tumbler Ridge high school, British Columbia, Canada, one died while being transported to the hospital, and two others were found dead at a nearby home. Additionally, 27 people were injured, with two requiring airlift for life-threatening wounds.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) identified the suspect as a female with brown hair wearing a dress. She was found dead inside the high school from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. While police believe they have identified her, her name and specific motives have not yet been released.

Police received the first report of an active shooter at 1.20pm local time. A community-wide emergency alert was issued shortly after 2.00pm, ordering residents to shelter in place. The lockdown and alert remained in effect until approximately 5.45pm, when authorities confirmed there was no further threat.

This tragedy marks the second-deadliest school shooting in Canadian history, surpassed only by the 1989 École Polytechnique massacre. It is also the deadliest mass shooting ever recorded in the province of British Columbia, leading Prime Minister Mark Carney to cancel official international travel to coordinate the response.

Tumbler Ridge is a small, remote community of roughly 2,400 people. Both the elementary and secondary schools will remain closed for the remainder of the week as the investigation continues. Officials have deployed significant resources, including the Major Crime Unit and victim services, to support the traumatised community.
